FIRE DRILLS - REGULATIONS

State and local regulations require that organized fire drills be conducted monthly during the school year.  It is important that all teachers and students know the proper exit to use when a fire alarm is sounded.

Since the fire alarm signal is different in each school, it is the duty of the Principal to familiarize the teachers and students with the fire drill procedures pertinent to the school facilities.  The following general procedures are recommended:

1.

When the alarm is sounded, all classwork shall stop immediately.

2.

Students shall not run, but they should walk at a fast pace.

3.

Students shall not run, but they should walk at a fast pace.

4.

Teachers shall not lock doors to classrooms, but doors should be closed, as well as windows and transoms.

5.

Upon leaving the building, students shall proceed to a specified point at least 150 feet from the building.  It is especially important that all areas near building entrances be clear so that fire trucks may drive close to the building, if necessary.

6.

Students shall remain in line after the building is cleared.

7.

Teachers shall check to insure that all students assigned to them have vacated the building.

8.

Students shall return to the classroom in single file when the signal to re-enter is given.

The exits to be used by each classroom shall be diagramed and posted in each room or instructional center.
