SAFETY INSPECTION

 

 

It shall be the policy of the Iberville Parish School Board to require all vehicles regularly used for the transportation of children, whether privately or publicly owned, be inspected regularly by authorized and qualified personnel.  Any vehicle found to be deficient shall be so designated and shall not be used to transport students until the appropriate repairs have been made by a certified mechanic and further inspection reveals that the deficiency has been removed.

 

The school buses used for the transportation of children, whether privately or publicly owned, shall be inspected at least semi-annually by local transportation personnel and/or Louisiana State Police in accordance with standards established by the Louisiana Board of Elementary and Secondary Education (BESE) and/or the School Board.

 

INSPECTIONS

 

 

PART I:

 

(a)

School bus inspections shall be completed by August 1st.

 

(b)

Any delays or re-inspections approved by the Supervisor of Transportation shall be completed by August 15th.

 

(c)

Failure to comply with the above deadlines shall result in a one (1) day suspension without pay requiring driver to rent a certified bus until his/her bus inspection has been completed.

 

 

PART II:

 

(a)

Mid-year inspections shall be completed by January 31st.

 

(b)

Any delays or re-inspections approved by the Supervisor of Transportation shall be completed by February 15th.

 

(c)

Failure to comply with the above deadlines shall result in a one day suspension without pay requiring driver to rent a certified bus until his/her bus inspection has been completed.

 

 

PART III

 

 

Repeated violations of this policy shall be considered willful neglect of duty, and shall be subject to disciplinary procedures contained in La. Rev. Stat. Ann. ยง17:493.
