FIGHTING
Iberville Parish School Board is to provide a physical and psychologically safe environment for students. Parents can be assured that every precaution will be taken to keep their children safe, and to prevent violent acts from occurring at our schools.
Parents can be assured that every precaution will be taken to keep their children safe, and to prevent violent acts from occurring at our schools.
Communication between law enforcement officials and the schools will be strengthened:
A resource officer shall be assigned to work at all schools.
A law enforcement official may contact the Child Welfare and Attendance Supervisor of the school district when a community disturbance involves their students.
Law enforcement officials may randomly visit the schools in their area at various times to make their presence known, to encourage a decrease in fighting.
Every fight on campus, at extracurricular activities, on school buses, summer school, summer feeding program, extended school year, summer enrichment programs, and at school bus stops will result in disciplinary action.
Students will be instructed that they must avoid fighting and that the correct procedure is to report bullying or other hostile behavior against them to teachers or administrators.
Suspension and Expulsion
Each of the student aggressors involved shall also be suspended and/or expelled from school. The suspension or expulsion is appealable according to established School Board policies already in effect. (Law enforcement procedures are not subject to appeal through the School Board.)
Once a student participates in a second physical fight and through an investigation by the principal or designee is determined to be an aggressor, the principal/director shall recommend expulsion.
Students reasonably concluded to be acting in self-defense may not be disciplined.
Conflict Resolution:
Conflict resolution will be addressed at the school level, as deemed necessary by the school disciplinarian.
Definition of self-defense: Self-defense is defined as the use of reasonable force to protect oneself from bodily harm from the attack of an aggressor and/or to remove oneself from danger.
